This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin is to provide awareness of an approved alternative method of compliance (AMOC) to all FAA airworthiness directives (ADs) and previously approved AMOCs that mandate the application of Alodine for all FAA type certificated aircraft, engines and propellers. The AMOC allows the use of the renamed Henkel Bonderite products as an alternative to the former Henkel Alodine products when complying with FAA ADs and previously approved AMOCs.
SAIB: CE-18-07 Exhaust Turbocharger; V-band Couplings Used in Exhaust Systems on Turbocharged Reciprocating Engine Powered Aircraft
From the FAA: This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin alerts owners, operators, maintenance technicians, and inspectors of an airworthiness concern, specifically failure of v-band couplings used in exhaust systems on turbocharged aircraft. Cracks originating out of a spot weld, on multi-segment, spot welded, v-band couplings have led to separation of the outer band and failure of the v-band coupling to retain the tailpipe or exhaust inlet pipe on all turbocharged, reciprocating engine powered aircraft, including rotorcraft.

SUMMARY: We propose to adopt a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Piper Aircraft, Inc. Models PA–28–140, PA–28–150, PA–28–160, PA–28–180, PA–28–235, PA–32–260, and PA–32–300 airplanes. This proposed AD was prompted by reports of corrosion found in an area of the main wing spar not easily accessible for inspection. This proposed AD would require installing an inspection access panel in the lower wing skin near the left and the right main wing spars if not already there, inspecting the left and the right main wing spars for corrosion, and taking all necessary corrective actions. We are proposing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.
